Every First Full Week in October 4th graders from area schools come out to Cottage Hill Farm to experience early farm life. Activities include corn harvesting, corn shelling, blacksmithing, sawing wood, etc. Partnered with the Homestead National Historical Park and the Blue Valley Antique Club, the teachers and their students spend 1/2 day at the Homestead and 1/2 day at the farm. We have 25 schools participate through those 3 days in October. Visitors and volunteers are welcome.
Then the Saturday after Pioneer Days is the Harvest Festival. When a number of activities will be held at the barn and a great chance to step back in time for a day. Antique tractors, horse drawn equipment, blacksmith demonstrations, marble making, plowing and threshing plus more! Numerous vendors are present as well as the Gage County Historical Museum will be selling Elijah Filley Stone Barn Memorabilia. This event is free to the public.
The Filley Stone Barn is located at 13282 E. Scott Road, two miles southwest of Filley, Nebraska (12 miles east of Beatrice on US Highway 136).
